TAJ MAHAL - THE SYMBOL OF LOVE
Taj Mahal is described as one of the wonders of the world which was located in Agra District in Uttar Pradesh. Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his lovable wife Mumtaz Mahal in the 17th century. This shows the Shah Jahan's eternal love for his favourite wife Mumtaz.
History of Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal is a soul filled with love and sorrow. This is an example of how a man can deeply love her wife. This man was the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan who loved his wife Mumtaz even after her death. Shah Jahan was born in 1592. He was the son of Mughal Emperor Jehangir and grandson of Akbar the great. Mumtaz Mahal was born Arjumand Banu Begum in 1593. She was the daughter of Abu’l-Hasan Asaf Khan. She was a Muslim Persian Princess.
When Shah Jahan was at the age of 14, he met Mumtaz and fell deeply in love with her. Later after 5 years, in the year 1612, they got married. Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan became inseparable companions. Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan had 14 children. While giving birth to their 14th child, Mumtaz Mahal died. Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife decided to build a magnificent monument as a tribute to her. This was now known as Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal was also known as “Crown of Princes”
Construction of Taj Mahal
The construction of Taj Mahal was started in the year 1631. This was entirely built out of white marble, which was brought from all over India and Central Asia. Taj Mahal was located on the right bank of the Yamuna river. It covers almost 17 hectares. For the construction of these masons, calligraphers, stone-cutters, carvers, painters, inlayers, dome builders and other artisans were brought from Central Asia and Iran. The main architect of Taj Mahal was Ustad-Ahmed Lahori. The construction of Taj Mahal took almost 20 years.
The uniqueness of Taj Mahal
Shah Jahan makes sure at each and every point of construction to be very unique. One of the interesting unique planning is placing the tomb at one end of the garden rather than at the centre. The planning of Taj Mahal is in a perfect balance of the composition. Taj Mahal was built by 22,000 labourers. It was the most sparkling jewel of Muslim Art in India. It was built with an optical illusion. The reflecting pool in front of the Taj Mahal enhances the beauty of Taj Mahal. The four walls at the four corners of the tomb are slightly tilted to avoid them falling on the tomb in case of collapse. Such unique features made Taj Mahal a remarkable place to visit.
